Three things Thomas Tuchel Chelsea side might consider in the January transfer window
Three things Thomas Tuchel Chelsea side might consider in the January transfer window.
There is quite a lot of time between now and the January transfer window. Why others wait, we take a look at the 2021 January transfer window and the position Thomas Tuchel Chelsea side are most likely to strengthen early next year.
The winter transfer window is a difficult time to buy players because no club wants to let go of their players, and a few a willing to take in new ones, therefore not many teams are heavily involved in the purchase or sales of players at that critical times, except for teams that look to bolster their sides.
Chelsea will forever remember January for one reason, that was when Thomas Tuchel took charge at Stamford Bridge following the sack of Frank Lampard and he has indeed turnaround the fortunes of the club.
Thomas Tuchel guided the Blues to a top-four finish in the Premier League, FA Cup final, and won the Champions League in five months.
The German tactician is now well settled at Stamford Bridge and has started the new season on high, as the Blues are currently top of the Premier League table after seven matches.
January is a time for clubs to improve their squad. It usually takes players a long time to adapt to their new teams, with less than three months to the end of the season.
1. Signing of Another midfielder
Chelsea brought midfielder Saul Niguez on the last day of the summer transfer window on loan from Atletico Madrid, but the Spaniard has started off slowly in the three games he has featured so far for the blues.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley are Tuchel’s preferred options in the middle of the park ahead of Saul, the recent injury crisis suffered by N’Golo Kante means one thing, Tuchel will need a replacement sooner or later.
2. Maybe a Wingback
Chelsea made attempts to sign former Inter Milan player, Achraf Hakimi, but the Algerian preferred to join PSG instead.
Cesar Azpilicueta, Reece James, and Callum Hudson-Odoi are the options left for Thomas Tuchel after they sold Tino Livramento to Southampton for around £28m with a buy-back clause. Azpilicueta has been drafted to the center, while Hudson-Odoi’s preferred position is the left-wing of a front three, leaving Reece James as the only recognised Left wing-back.
With Achraf Hakimi out of the equation. would Thomas Tuchel be looking for an alternative in the transfer window.
3. What happens to Antonio Rudiger’s Contract?
Antonio Rudiger did not make Chelsea’s starting lineup under frank Lampard’s tenure, but has transformed under a new manager and has remained a key player ever since.
The big question is Will the blues decide to earmark some funds in buying players and also earmark some to one of their players?
Rudiger is open to talking to clubs in Europe beginning from January 1, with just six months left in his current Chelsea deal, although he has been reportedly offered a new deal.
The 28-year-old who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich can surely command a big wage if he decides to leave.
Thomas Tuchel Chelsea side can choose to yield to his demand or allow him to leave in the January transfer window.
Do you think Chelsea needs to sign any player in the 2022 January transfer window and where would it be?
