“What could it be” – Jurgen Klopp gives injury update on Konate and 2 other Liverpool players ahead of Premier League season opener

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp provided an injury report on Ibrahima Konate and other players Just in time for this weekend’s 2022–23 Premier League season opening.

In their first victory in the competition in sixteen years, the Reds won the Community Shield on Saturday by defeating Manchester City 3-1.

In the squad, including Konate, Klopp has some concerns about Konate’s fitness as they turn their focus to the next Premier League season.

Exactly 24 hours after their cup victory in Leicester, the Frenchman was substituted during their 3-0 friendly loss to Strasbourg on Sunday.

Klopp wasn’t overly concerned about Konate’s condition and hoped nothing serious when he went off in agony early in the second half.

Speaking to the press after the match, he said (via Liverpool Echo):

“We don’t know exactly yet on Ibou, but it doesn’t look too concerning, so I hope we caught it in the right moment.”

Curtis Jones was noticeably absent from Liverpool’s weekend match, and manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that he did so on the recommendation of the team’s medical staff.

He stated that a second evaluation of his condition would take place on Monday:

“Curtis felt a little bit and we couldn’t take any risks. [There] was no impact or whatever, so that always makes it a bit, ‘My god, what could it be?’

“We had no time; he felt it today and he wanted to play desperately, but then the medical department said no and that we needed to make further tests. We will do that tomorrow and then we will know more.”

Naby Keita was sick and was unable to play against Manchester City, but he is anticipated to be back for Saturday’s league start at Craven Cottage.
