‘We will talk’ – Watch Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti issues update on top Liverpool transfer ‘target’
During the January transfer window, Jurgen Klopp might try to bolster his Liverpool team.
As Marco Asensio’s contract nears its end, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has addressed the midfielder’s future.
The 26-year-old will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with teams in January or be offloaded in a move at a discount because he only has a few months left on his current contract, which expires at the conclusion of this season.
Liverpool is one of the teams who have been associated with the Spaniard, but considering his age and propensity for elite play, they are sure to encounter competition for his services.
In all competitions this season, Asensio has made a total of ten appearances, none of which have been starts, presumably outlining his long-term future with Los Blancos.
Madrid is currently in first place in both La Liga and their Champions League group, indicating that they have succeeded without needing the three-time European Cup winner to play a prominent part.
Ancelotti has reiterated that conversations will take place after the World Cup, despite ongoing rumors about what will happen next in the situation of Asensio.
“We haven’t talked about contract issues because Marco is a player I trust,” explained the ex-Everton boss.
“He has played very little, but he always shows me things and with the few minutes I give him, he does well. He will have more minutes in the future.
“After the World Cup we will talk about his contractual situation,” he told AS.
