Liverpool comfortably dispatched Manchester United at Anfield to leapfrog Manchester City and go top of the league.

The Reds were a goal up after five minutes into the game, with Manchester United’s reshuffled defensive structure caught out by a ball down the right.

Liverpool kept up the pressure and soon doubled their lead through Mo Salah, after a delicious flick by Sadio Mané.

United’s struggled for the most part of the game and it was made worse by the forced departure of Paul Pogba early on, with Lingard coming on rather than Sancho to play on the right.

However, Liverpool took their foot off the gas in the closing stages of the first half, content to keep the ball out of United’s reach before halftime.

Liverpool put the game to bed with their third, however. Andy Robertson’s interception and drive upfield were key before Diaz set up Mané for an excellent left-footed finish.

Mo Salah netted his 30th goal of the season, latching onto a Jota through ball with an excellent run in from the right-hand side, his deflected shot lifted over De Gea and into the back of the next.

The win means Liverpool are top of the Premier League table, with Manchester City set to host Brighton tomorrow night.

For Jurgen Klopp and his team, the quadruple dream continues to live. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s top-four hopes have suffered a significant blow.
