Given that he plays in a position comparable to the Senegalese forward’s and has demonstrated Premier League experience, Sterling might have been the perfect alternative.
The Reds’ initial interest in signing Sterling may not have been very serious, though.
The aforementioned source claims that Sterling will soon agree to a transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea.
Prior to his £45 million transfer to Stamford Bridge, the 27-year-old winger has agreed to personal terms.
Sterling and Liverpool did not part ways amicably.
The same cannot be said, though, regarding him departing the Cityzens this time.
The Mirror claims that Sterling and Pep Guardiola had an open discussion regarding his choice to leave the Etihad Stadium in order to get regular playing time.
While talks with City about Nathan Aké are still underway, Chelsea is nearing an agreement with Man City to buy Raheem Sterling for £45 million plus add-ons.
It is important to note that other European powerhouses expressed interest in signing Sterling besides the Reds.
According to reports, the English international was also coveted by Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
Nathan Ake, Sterling’s teammate from Manchester City, might join him at Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.
For the Dutch defender, who is also interested in leaving the Premier League champions, conversations are currently taking place between City and Chelsea.
