Watch Fabrizio Romano clears the air on possibility of ex Liverpool star returning to Anfield
According to rumors, Liverpool was considering bringing the Dutchman back to Anfield, but Romano has debunked this notion and called the rumors “false.”
Instead, he stated that the extension of Naby Keita’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2023, is the Liverpool board’s top priority.
Following the £85 million signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica to replace Sadio Mane, who is set to join Bayern Munich, it has been reported that Jurgen Klopp’s focus in this transfer window will shift to rebuilding an ageing midfield.

The goal is to bring in younger players who can grow under Klopp and eventually take the place of guys like Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, and Jordan Henderson, all of whom are over 28.
Although former red Wijnaldum was clearly successful during his stint in the North West, it is unlikely that Liverpool will bring him back.
The free agent Ducth international had a lackluster debut season in France after joining PSG last summer.
In 31 games in Ligue 1, he only managed one goal. Although Liverpool has been mentioned as a potential destination, it would seem improbable that he would leave the French Champions in this transfer window.
The former Newcastle player played 237 times and scored 22 goals during his five years at Anfield.
During his tenure in Merseyside, he also won the Premier League and the Champions League.
