Fabrizio Romano, a football transfer analyst, has provided an update on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah’s contract issue, which has been the subject of much conjecture.

Since arriving from AS Roma for £37.8 million in 2017, the Egyptian star has become one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players.

In his five years at Anfield, Salah, 29, has won the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as breaking other records.

With 23 goals, he tied for first place in the Premier League with Son Heung-Min in the 2021-2022 season.

He was a key figure in the team’s unsuccessful quadruple bid, with two trophies – the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup – to show for it.

However, with his contract set to end next year, there has been much conjecture over the forward’s future on Merseyside.

The player’s contract negotiations with the club have halted due to his pay demands, and Romano has provided an update on the situation.

According to Fabrizio Romano the journalist: “Mo Salah’s situation has not changed, as of now. He doesn’t want to leave Liverpool this summer – but new contract talks are still complicated, up to the club for the next months.”

He added: “Liverpool will have to improve their proposal or Salah could leave on a free next year.”

Salah is reportedly asking salary of £400,000 per week, which would be out of line with the Reds’ present wage structure, according to the Independent. Sadio Mane, the Egyptian star’s teammate, is expected to leave Liverpool this summer.

Bayern Munich has been linked with a bid for the Senegalese attacker.

According to the Telegraph, Mane, 30, has made no contract requests and wants to leave the club this summer, with his contract expiring the following year.

With the contractual circumstances of two of Klopp’s best players escalating in rumour, the summer will be a big one for him.
