“Sell him now” Liverpool told to offload £225,000-p/w player this summer

Former Liverpool star Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool to sell Thiago Alcantara this summer, with the Spanish international linked with a move away from Anfield.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the former Liverpool defender suggested that the 32-year-old could be moved on should an offer come in for Thiago, with Enrique citing injuries as a reason for why the midfielder should be sold this window.

Thiago is one of Liverpool’s highest earners at a reported £225,000-a-week, yet with the former Bayern Munich man missing good chunks of last season due to injury, selling the playmaker could be a wise idea if an offer was to come in this summer.

With Liverpool undergoing a midfield rebuild in the coming months, selling Thiago could both free up space in the squad and funds on the payroll. And for Enrique, allowing the Italian-born superstar to leave could be good for all parties.

Enrique said about the prospect of Thiago being sold by Liverpool this summer: “I love him as a player. But I believe if an offer comes in for him, we should take it. He is a top player, but most of the time, he is injured. We need more reliable players.”

Why Liverpool should listen to Enrique and sell Thiago if given a chance

Thiago’s quality is undeniable. The midfielder is one of the best players to represent Liverpool in the Premier League era based on purely what they can do with a football. However, that never equates to someone becoming a key figure for a club, and for that, a sale could be needed this summer.

As we know, Thiago’s time at Anfield has been dogged by injuries, and whilst the midfielder could still offer something next season, the Spaniard’s fitness record should be enough to encourage Liverpool to sell the 32-year-old if a good bid comes in.
