Report: Liverpool now eyeing club-record move to sign ‘magic’ attacker, Reds have already contacted his agent

According to CBS writer Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are considering a club-record deal to sign Barcelona forward Ansu Fati.

According to a report from a reporter for Fabrizio Romano’s “Daily Briefing” on CaughtOffside’s Substack, Liverpool have joined Manchester United and Arsenal in the competition to sign the 20-year-old.

Despite Barcelona manager Xavi officially stating that Fati is not for sale, according to Jacobs’ source, the Catalan club may look into a deal given their present financial predicament.

The La Liga leaders must either significantly increase revenue or reduce their salary bill from £132 million to £176 million.

Therefore, although he isn’t on the highest wage, his status as one of the world’s most promising youngsters means he would command a large fee.

Consequently, it is believed that it would cost in the region of £88m to sign Fati from Barcelona.

Liverpool, United and Arsenal have already made contact with the player’s agent over prospective deals.

At the moment, Darwin Nunez is the most expensive player in Liverpool’s history.

The Reds signed the Uruguay international for an overall package of £85.6m last summer from Benfica.

Only £64.2m of this was up-front, with the remaining £21.4m making up potential add-ons.

Therefore, if the Merseyside outfit were to try to sign Fati from Barcelona, it would likely take a club-record fee to do so.

Hailed by Catalan club teammate Eric Garcia as a player ‘born with magic’, the Spain international would be an excellent addition to any top European side.

However, as the Reds have already welcomed Nunez and Cody Gakpo to Anfield over the past year, this remains an unlikely prospect with FSG still in charge.
