‘No one ever says it – Watch Virgil van Dijk sent shocking message following poor Liverpool performance against Napoli

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is ‘nowhere near’ his former best form, according to football pundit Jason Cundy, who believes the Dutchman should receive criticism.

The Dutchman started Liverpool’s embarrassing 4-1 Champions League loss to Napoli last night, and he was just one of many players who put in a lackluster display.

The former Southampton player’s performance has caused talkSPORT analyst Cundy to doubt the No. 4’s skills since he recovered from the knee injury he suffered against Everton in 2020.

“Sorry, am I missing something? Do you see the goals Alisson conceded this evening?” Cundy asked listeners (via TEAMtalk).

“Are you watching Van Dijk defend? Can we have an adult, grown up, big boy, put your pants on conversation about Liverpool?

“Because they’re [supporters] happy to come on this station and laud it when they do this that and the other, but when there’s a mistake it’s ‘this that and the other’.

“Put your big boy pants on and have a big boy pants conversation about Van Dijk.”

“No one ever says it. They think he’s the greatest centre-half this country has ever seen.

“The truth is, he’s had two good seasons and they won one Premier League.

“He’s had an injury and I feel for him, but the truth is he’s nowhere near it.”

The 31-year-old is still among the top central defenders in the world, but so far this season, he hasn’t quite been at his best.

On the first day of the Premier League season, he conceded a penalty against Fulham, and last night, he fouled Napoli forward Victor Osimhen inside the 18-yard box.

Every time a team puts the ball in behind our defense, it seems like they score or are very close to doing so.

While Joel Matip’s introduction at halftime seemed to steady the ship and make us look like a much better team when he’s in the side, Joe Gomez had a terrible night in Naples and even though we surrendered within the opening two minutes of the second half.
