“More than happy to join” – £8m Liverpool transfer target sends messsge to the reds as Fabrizio Romano confirms deal almost done

Liverpool are continuing in contact with Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay over a possible summer transfer, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Reds are looking for a back-up right-back for the upcoming season.

Calvin Ramsay wants to move to Anfield, according to a famous transfer specialist. Talks between the two clubs, though, are still underway.

In response to Ramsay’s possible move to the UEFA Champions League finalists, Fabrizio Romano tweeted:

“Contacts are still ongoing between Liverpool and Calvin Ramsay’s camp. He’s considered an opportunity, still waiting to progress in talks with Aberdeen. Ramsay would be more than happy to join Liverpool, up to the clubs.”

Calvin Ramsay had a breakout season in the Scottish league with Aberdeen in 2021-22. During the season, the 18-year-old full-back made 33 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting on nine occasions.

Ramsay was named Young Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers’ Association for his achievements.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are close to finalizing an agreement to retain Ramsay’s services for the 2022-23 season.

Aberdeen has apparently been offered £4 million with different add-ons by Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Reds are in desperate need of a right-back backup.

If the Merseyside club has to play more than 60 matches again this season, Trent Alexander-Arnold will need to take some time off.

Joe Gomez can fill in as a right-back if necessary. The England international, on the other hand, is primarily a centre-back. The Reds did have a back-up right-back in Neco Williams, which is worth highlighting.

In the January transfer window, though, the Welsh international was allowed to join Fulham in the Championship on loan. Calvin Ramsay’s arrival could spell the end of his tenure at Anfield.
