Liverpool transfer target Alexis Mac Allister bid farwell to club after Man United win
After scoring the winning goal for Brighton against Manchester United, fans believe Alexis Mac Allister delivered a farewell interview.
The in-demand Argentine midfielder came up with a 99th-minute penalty, which was given after video analysis proved that Luke Shaw’s raised hand was touched by the ball as he attempted to block a last-ditch corner.
David de Gea was sent the wrong way by Mac Allister’s penalty kick, which was struck into the top left corner and caused some unusual celebrations at the AMEX.
Recent months have seen a lot of speculation about Mac Allister leaving Brighton, with sources saying that Liverpool had already made an initial approach for the player.
After four years and 106 games for Brighton, the World Cup winner seemed destined to depart, and many people’s perceptions have only been reaffirmed by his post-game interview.
In what seemed like a farewell, Mac Allister conveyed his gratitude for what Brighton had done for him.
“I know what this club gave to me and I’m really grateful, really happy to be here,” he told Sky Sports.
“I try to transmit that to my teammates, the young players, the South American players that we’ve got.
“It’s a fantastic team, like a family. Every time I get to the pitch I really enjoy it.”
But while Brighton still have six games left in what has been a marvellous season in the Premier League, plenty think Mac Allister is on the move.
One Liverpool fan commented: “Farewell interview. Get innn.”
A second supporter tweeted: “Bro is bouncing as soon as that window opens
A third agreed: “Already saying goodbye to Brighton.”
Another wrote: “He’s speaking in past tense
Mac Allister left Argentinos Juniors in January 2019 to join Brighton, although he later returned to the team on loan for the rest of the season.
Mac Allister has established himself as one of the league’s top midfielders over the past two seasons, and his amazing, victorious World Cup campaign with Argentina in Qatar has only served to further elevate his profile.
