According to sources cited by Football Insider, Liverpool is interested in signing Red Bull Leipzig center-back Josko Gvardiol this summer.

The 21-year-old Croatian international, who has excelled in the Bundesliga and Champions League this season, is one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe.

The Reds are genuinely interested in signing Gvardiol in the summer, but they are aware that Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Manchester United will be fierce rivals for his services.

A new center-back is at the top of Jurgen Klopp’s shopping list this summer as he looks to improve his defensive depth for the upcoming season.

Gvardiol is seen as an ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk at Anfield, and Klopp is pushing the Liverpool board to invest heavily this summer.

It is reported by The Daily Mail, that Gvardiol has a release cause introduced to his contract in 2024 worth £97million, therefore a bidding war is expected this year between a number of teams that are trying to avoid paying that fee next summer.

Gvardiol, who left Dinamo Zagreb for Leipzig in 2020, has developed into a key member of the Bundesliga team.

He spent his first season with the team back on loan at Zagreb, but he then made an impression that led to Leipzig giving him a place in the main squad.

Since then, he has made 78 senior appearances for Leipzig, including 32 this season.
