Liverpool legend John Barnes delivers verdict which will impact Jurgen Klopp’s transfer plans
John Barnes a Liverpool legend believes Jurgen Klopp will only try to attract players to Liverpool this summer if current stars decide to leave.
In recent transfer windows, Liverpool has made several spectacular signings. They brought Diogo Jota and Thiago to Anfield in the summer of 2020.
During his remarkable scoring run, Jota was able to break up the famed front three. So far, the Portuguese has scored 34 goals in 82 games for Liverpool.

Thiago, on the other hand, needed some time to reach his peak but is now one of Klopp’s greatest players.
Liverpool bolstered their defense with the addition of centre-back Ibrahima Konate last summer. He is presently competing with Joel Matip for a spot in the defense alongside Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds’ transfer success continued in January, as they beat Tottenham to Luis Diaz’s signature. After rapidly adapting to Klopp’s style, he seemed to be on his way to becoming a Liverpool star.
Former winger Barnes was asked about prospective summer additions during a recent interview.
He believes Liverpool has completed the majority of their business and will only pursue fresh talent if present choices go.
John Barnes delivers transfer verdict
“I don’t think you’ll see many signings coming in. Look at last year what happened with Thiago, Konate, then Luis Diaz, then Jota also came in,” Barnes said (via Liverpool Echo).
“I think it really depends on who goes, there’s talk of players leaving.
“I think, depending on which players go, there’s talk of (Divock) Origi going, if one leaves, will others leave. If no one goes, then I don’t think they’re going to make any signings.
“You’ve got Harvey Elliott to come through, Curtis Jones. Defenders – Joe Gomez. It really depends on who goes. No one’s gone yet.
“Come the end of the season when players leave, they’ll have things in place to actually replace them.”
Liverpool will probably not spend a lot of money this summer for two reasons. To begin with, they paid upwards of £37.5 million on Diaz during the winter window.
Plus, if at all possible, Liverpool prefers to make smart signings over big-money transfers.
