Liverpool’s set asking price for another star forward with the club willing to sell this summer
According to a recent report, Liverpool have fixed their asking price for Diogo Jota since the Reds could be willing to move the striker this summer.
After surviving a turbulent season marred by injuries and a decline in form, Jurgen Klopp’s team has recently been revived.
Of course, their recovery was best demonstrated on Sunday when they handed rivals Manchester United a record-breaking 7-0 defeat at Anfield. Since Christmas Day 1931, it is the most significant loss United has ever experienced.
In turn, despite a largely dismal season the Reds are now just three points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, with a game in hand.
Jota’s position on the club appears to be in danger as recent additions Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez both start to establish their worth.
In fact, if speculations are accurate, the 26-year-old may depart Anfield in the summer.
According to Football Transfers, Liverpool will demand €70million [£62million] for Jota in the summer.
While the report claims the player is happy at Liverpool, the increased competition in his position could drastically limit his game time
Jota will still be vying for a spot in Klopp’s forward line with Gakpo, Nunez, Luis Diaz, and Fabio Carvalho even though Roberto Firmino will be departing Merseyside in the summer.
Jota moved from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Merseyside in 2020, scoring 14 goals in all competitions in his first season before adding another 21 the following year.
But this season, the attacker has battled calf and hamstring injuries, which forced him out of the World Cup and the majority of Liverpool’s campaign.
On his injury battle, the player told the Liverpool programme: “I had a strange calf injury. They said to me they haven’t seen it before, most of the people, so we needed to ask for the help of some specialists as well to try and get over it and of course to give it a little bit more time because of the complexity and just to be safe.
“But yes, it was very hard, a long time. The results, to be honest, didn’t help as well so it was very frustrating to see things happening and not be able to help in any way – well apart from the dressing-room talks, but not on the field.”
