Liverpool begins negotiation to seal deal for £45m midfielder ahead of Arsenal

According to report Southampton midfielder, Romeo Lavia is a subject of negotiations between Liverpool and the club.

Southampton is open to selling Lavia this summer but wants £45 million in return for their relegation from the Premier League.

In his first season in the Premier League, the 19-year-old player, who cost Saints £14 million from Manchester City last year, turned in a number of standout displays.

While Mikel Arteta’s team is prioritising negotiations for Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber, they have already held talks with Arsenal about signing Lavia this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool also have Lavia on their summer shortlist and have now begun talks over a potential deal for the midfielder.

Liverpool and Nice have discussed a transfer for midfielder Khephren Thuram, but no deal has been reached.

Alexis MacAllister had been acquired by Jurgen Klopp’s team from Brighton this month in a £35 million move, but the Liverpool manager is eager to expand his midfield options even further.

In the meantime, Lavia is also on Chelsea’s radar as Mauricio Pochettino looks to bolster his midfield ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Carlton Palmer, a former midfielder for Southampton and England, has advised Lavia to decline a transfer to Stamford Bridge.

‘I think given his age; Chelsea is not a good fit,’ Palmer told Football League World.

‘They have still got a lot to sort out with the squad, I think Man United have still got a lot of work to do with the current squad.

‘For me and for the player I think for him to flourish he would be better suited going to Arsenal with Arteta, the squad is young and is going places.’
