I won’t be sacked like Thomas Tuchel – Klopp responds to sack question after horrible loss to Napoli
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp was asked about his future following the Reds’ 4-1 defeat away to Napoli in the first game of their Champions League campaign.
Despite Liverpool’s poor performance in their Champions League opener, manager Jurgen Klopp is not worried about his job security.
The Reds have struggled in the league, winning just two of their first six games, and a trip to Napoli presented an opportunity to put all that behind them in Europe.
However, things didn’t go as planned, as Klopp’s team had a terrible night in Italy, losing 4-1, leaving them with a difficult task in the remaining group games.
Chelsea decided to fire their manager Thomas Tuchel earlier yesterday, after losing their opening European match in Croatia.
with the future of the German being a topic of discussion, Klopp made it known that he is not worried about the final result at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
“Not really,” Klopp said when asked whether he was worried about being sacked. “Our owners are rather calm and expect me to sort the situation and not think someone else will.”
It was only in April that Klopp signed his most recent contract extension at Anfield. The new deal will keep him at Liverpool until 2026 and was agreed during last season’s run-in as the Reds pursued four trophies at the same time.
Piotr Zielinski’s penalty-kick goal gave Liverpool a five-minute deficit against Napoli. Victor Osimhen missed a second penalty attempt, but Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Gio Simeone made sure Luciano Spalletti’s team lead by three goals at the break.
Early in the second half, Zielinski added a second goal, bringing the score to four. Luis Diaz then gave the Premier League team a one-goal advantage. With Rangers losing 4-0 to Ajax earlier in the evening, the consolation goal kept Liverpool from finishing last in the group, but the match against the Dutch champions next week now appears to be much more crucial.
“It looks like we have to reinvent ourselves,” Klopp said after the defeat. “There are a lot of things lacking, the fun part is that we have to do it in the middle of a Premier League and Champions League season
“We have Wolves on Saturday and if they saw the game tonight, they cannot stop laughing, they would say – and I would too – it is the perfect moment to play them. We have to set up better in pretty much everything.”
