Jurgen Klopp speaks on Sadio Mane’s midfield role which left him amazed at ‘insane’ Liverpool’s performance

Liverpool star Sadio Mane was one of the team’s excellent performers against Leeds United on Wednesday night.

The Anfield outfit delivered a statement win on Wednesday night, defeating Leeds United by six goals to nil and closing in on Manchester City to just three points.

Position inter-changing was much encouraged more than usual, and Joel Matip proved to be keen to step out regularly, scoring on the 30th minute.

The AFCON champion Sadio Mane in particular was highly effective. He was deployed in the center of the pitch and was incorporated with task performing more like Roberto Firmino rather than his usual attacking self.

Sadio Mane regularly drifted into midfield roles to assume possession, and he took an opposing center-back with him due to Bielsa’s man-marking scheme.

Virgil van Dijk was having possession and he played a pass into Mane’s feet, who had retreated into midfield from his high starting position. As a result, Luke Ayling followed him, which opened up a gap in Bielsa’s defence which was a good and effective strategy for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Mane’smovements resulted in spaces forming in Leeds’ defence, and his first touch often allowed him to steer clear of the center-back who had followed him.

“Sadio’s game was one of his best,” said Klopp after the match. “The way he interpreted his role, got away from opponents, opened up gaps for us. It was absolutely insane.”

Despite making withdrawn movements away from the goal, Mane also managed to score twice while winning a penalty for Mohamed Salah to convert.
