Jurgen Klopp sends a message to Pep Guardiola as he reveals plans for next season
Despite a dramatic final day of the season almost sending the Premier League trophy to Anfield, Liverpool were defeated by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
As his Liverpool side fell short on the last day of the season, Jurgen Klopp congratulated Pep Guardiola and Manchester City on their Premier League title success.
On a dramatic afternoon at Anfield, Liverpool rallied from behind to beat Wolves 3-1 thanks to goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Andy Robertson, but it wasn’t enough to beat City to the title, as Guardiola’s side overcame Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa.

City overcame a two-goal deficit thanks to two goals from Ilkay Gundogan and one from Rodri, after Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho had put Villa in possession and had Liverpool fans dreaming of a final-day upset, only to be shattered as the title returned to the Etihad.
Speaking after the game, Klopp said:
“Congratulations to Man City and Pep Guardiola. Thank you to Aston Villa and Wolverhampton for making a proper game of it.
“It’s not the result we wanted. It was a bit of a rollercoaster. I don’t know the results exactly but I know they were 1-0 up – where they 2-0 up as well? Of course at the moment there’s disappointment here as well.
Guardiola was in tears on the sidelines at the final whistle after being taken through a rollercoaster of emotions in City’s final game, and he praised Liverpool’s challenge. “I have never seen a team like Liverpool in my life in your competitor,” he said. “They help us to be a better team season by season.”
Klopp can be satisfied with his team’s fantastic season, which has seen them win the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and come within a point of winning the Premier League, all while still having a Champions League final to look forward to next week.
“I am proud. It’s been an incredible season. Exceptional,” he said in his post-match press conference. “The game today showed so much about these boys.
“The early girl was a knock and we didn’t play football like we usually played and you still find a way. Absolutely outstanding. 92 points is crazy. Yes, I’m proud.”
