However, Madrid had grown into the game, which had a breathless, end to end feel.

A superb Modric pass found substitute Rodryogo, who fired the ball past Mendy to repeat the 3-1 scoreline from the first leg, and the game carried on into extra time.

From then on, only one man was going to make the difference. Karim Benzema headed the ball into Mendy’s post following a Vinicius cross as Madrid retook the lead on aggregate(5-4) and advance to the semifinals of the competition.
