The reigning Champions League champions struggled to make an impact against RB Leipzig at home and were fortunate to avoid falling down, but a late goal from Fede Valverde saved them and helped them maintain their flawless start to the 2022–23 campaign.

Real Madrid is in first place in their group after a 3-0 victory on Matchday 1 at Celtic Park with all possible points. On three different competitive fronts, they have now won every one of the eight games they have played.

However, the game on Wednesday was challenging right away because RB Leipzig was well-organized and left little room for Real Madrid to rush through and combine.

On the other side, the German team had a limited number of opportunities to seize the lead. However, sloppy finishing and Real’s Thibaut Courtois in goal prevented a goal.

But ten minutes from the end, Fede Valverde’s solo effort gave them the breakthrough they required.

After that, as Madrid continued to move forward without their captain and attacking inspiration, Karim Benzema, replacement Marco Asensio sealed the outcome in stoppage time.
