Egypt sports minister reveals what he told Mo Salah about Liverpool contract talks as player takes final decision
Liverpool have started talks over a new contract with Mohamed Salah, but are yet to come to reach an agreement.
In the past week, reports claimed the winger turned down an offer worth £400,000 a week.
Salah’s current deal will expire next summer and the Reds need to tie him down to a new one as soon as possible.
The 29-year-old continues to be a key player under Jurgen Klopp, scoring 20 goals and assisting a further 10 in the Premier League this season.
In an interview with Egyptian radio, sports minister Ashraf Sobhi said: “I met with [Mohamed] Salah after Senegal game and said to him to forget what happened and focus on what’s next.
“I have advised him to continue his journey in a club other than Liverpool, but his direction now is to renew his contract with Liverpool.”
Salah has always insisted he enjoys his life at Liverpool but now wanted to be recognized as one of the world’s best players replicated with a salary to match.
