Jurgen Klopp talks down Liverpool’s chances of winning an “unrealistic” quadruple ahead of the Benfica clash

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Liverpool does not have a realistic chance of winning a historic quadruple, and insists that the Reds are not the favourites to win any more silverware this season.

Liverpool have won the Carabao Cup this season, are into the quarter-final of the Champions League and Semi-final of the FA Cup and sits just a point behind Manchester City in the Premier League.

But, Klopp believes his side should not be expected to add to their trophy haul in the coming weeks.

“We are not favourites in one competition, that’s the truth,’ Klopp told former Liverpool forward Peter Crouch in an interview with BT Sport.

“But, we are around and in and people think we can do it, it’s nice.”

Asked if Liverpool have a realistic opportunity of winning four trophies in a single season. Klopp’s response was emphatic and he even stated that Pep Guardiola’s City side are on course for the treble instead.

“No it’s not [realistic], and it never was. I don’t think anybody ever won the quadruple. In England not, and I don’t know if in any countries it ever happened.

“You cannot plan it. The schedule makes it really difficult. If you are not in a league like 20 points ahead… that’s not too important anymore, but for us, we have to go for everything in each game, and that makes it really unlikely.”

The German thinks Pep Guardiola’s Man City side have a more realistic chance of clinching the treble.

“But we won the first competition, that’s why we are the only one who can win the quadruple, but City is probably favourite for the treble.

“If we could win one other competition, it would be outstanding, and we don’t even know that yet,”

Both teams will face each other in a potential title-decider on Sunday, with Liverpool knowing that a win at Etihad will take them to the top of the table and a chance to secure the Premier League title.
