Done Deal: Liverpool agree deal to sign young defender ahead of the summer
Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has signed a new contract at the club, capping a week to remember for the 20-year-old defender.
Quansah was chosen yesterday to represent England in the U20 World Cup, which will take place in Argentina later this month. Quansah will be the only Reds player to take part in the competition.
This follows his participation in the Three Lions’ U19 European Championship victory from last year, where he scored an important goal in the semi-final to qualify for the championship final.
The talented center-back represented Liverpool under-21s for much of this season before being loaned to League One Bristol Rovers during the January transfer window, where he quickly manager a first-choice option under manager Joey Barton.
“The sky’s the limit for him, he can be whatever he wants,” said Barton earlier this year of the youngster’s ability. “Jurgen Klopp doesn’t feel the way he feels about you, training with the first team unless you’re a good player.”
Quansah, who has been a member of the Academy since he was five years old, led the Liverpool under-18 team to the FA Youth Cup final two years ago before moving up to Premier League 2 the following year.
Although he has since been named to the first-team bench for three games, he has yet to make his senior debut.
