Dani Alves back to Barcelona as Xavi Hernandez seals hisĀ first signing
Barcelona have announced the return of club legend Dani Alves after he changed his mind about his signing.
The 38-year-old was close to making a comeback earlier, despite it appearing almost impossible at a stage according to reports.
Alves return to the Camp Nou was stimulated by Barcelona’s new boss, Xavi Hernandez, who pushed for the signing of his former teammate and as announced by the Spanish giants on Friday.
A club statement read “FC Barcelona and Dani Alves have reached an agreement in principle for the player to join the football first team for the remainder of the current season.
“The Brazilian will be joining training from next week but will not be able to play until January.
“The club will announce the full details at his official presentation as a new FC Barcelona player.”
Xavi inherited a squad from former Barca coach Ronald Koeman that already includes right-back options like Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto.
However, BarƧa have been struggling for consistency and another experienced hand alongside Gerard PiquƩ, Jordi Alba and Marc-Andre ter Stegen would not be bad.
He will need time to meet up with his new teammates, but he already knows the demands of life at the Camp Nou well.
Alves previous stint at BarƧa, was between 2008 and 2016, in which he won 23 trophies and secured a slot amongst the club greats.
