According to Fabrizio Romano in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, whose future has not been decided, is attracting a lot of interest.

Despite initially appearing to be a star talent in the making during his days at RB Leipzig as a young player, Keita hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations during his time at Anfield.

The international player for Guinea is almost out of time with Liverpool; his current deal expires in 2023. Romano acknowledges it’s still unclear whether he will sign a new deal or leave for another club.

Keita wants to know just how important of a role he’ll play in Jurgen Klopp’s team before committing his future to the club, according to Romano, who claims that negotiations are still ongoing.

“There are ongoing contacts between Naby Keita’s camp and Liverpool to decide about the future. There’s been a lot of interest around him for a long time but no official bids,” Romano explained.

“Talks with Liverpool will continue, Keita wants to understand how important he’ll be for Klopp in the future before making his final decision.”

The time has come for Liverpool to significantly invest in their midfield, and if it necessitates letting Keita and other players depart, then perhaps that is for the best.

Keita may possess exceptional natural talent, but others may be able to perform better given that he hasn’t completely adjusted to Premier League level.

Keita himself might believe a transfer is preferable as he might be good enough to play more frequently at another top European club.
