“He’s a name on a list”- Journalist reveals Liverpool’s top transfer target and Plan B in the January transfer window
Journalist Neil Jones speaking on the RedMen TV has been discussing the links between Liverpool and Teun Koopmeiners that have been emerging in recent weeks.
Jones is made to believe that there may be some truth to the rumors that the Reds are now keeping tabs on the Dutch midfielder.
The 24-year-old does fit many criteria in terms of experience, age profile, and talent, the reporter said, but he’s not the club’s main priority.
Indeed, Jones says that Koopmeiners is on Liverpool’s list in case moves for their top targets don’t come off, so he seems to be one to keep in mind.
“I think he’s a name on a list. If you look at a more general point. There are a few players who have been linked to Liverpool where it would be a move away from where they’ve been.
“You look at 18-19-year-old unknown midfielders, that would be a leap for Liverpool to start doing that for good money,” Jones said.
“Look at the players they’ve bought for the first team in recent years. Jota, Konate, Fabinho, Keita, Mane, Salah. They’ve all been 21 to 25, 150/200 games, international or European experience, from a club below Liverpool’s standing.
“Teun Koopmeiners fits that bill, he scored on Monday night, so in that sense, he fits the bill. You have the data there to say, yes, ok. He does tick boxes, and Atalanta plays a high-intensity system.
“I would say that Koopmeiners is one that is on a list in case so-and-so doesn’t happen rather than it being Koopmeiners is the one.”
Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez appear to be two names top on Liverpool’s list for their midfield replacement, but Koopmeiners wouldn’t be a bad alternative if those big deals don’t happen.k
There is a lot to like about the Dutch international midfielder, and it is easy to understand why Liverpool might be interested in the Serie A star. He has a left foot like a magician.
As Liverpool looks to strengthen their midfield, we will keep an eye on this and more before the close of the January transfer window.
