It was a difficult day for Liverpool fans watching the World Cup because their hopes for Lionel Messi to win his first championship were replaced by hopes for our own Ibou Konate to enter the game and fulfill his footballing ambitions.
Even though our No. 5 only had a brief cameo in extra time, we were happy for the chance to support him because he had a noticeable effect on the field.
Our 23-year-old defender met Argentina’s captain and player of the tournament in Qatar during the extra session, when he promptly and skillfully disposed of the former Barcelona player.
By winning the trophy, the PSG forward had the last laugh, but there wasn’t much more that our French hero could have done.
