“No Heart attack’: Klopp break silence on reported Liverpool sale by FSG
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has poured cold water on reports that Fenway Sports Group are trying to sell the club.
It’s widely reported that FSG, led by Liverpool’s principal owner John W. Henry, are inviting offers to purchase the club.
Rumours have been circulating on who could become the new custodians of the Merseyside outfit, with possibility of Middle Eastern state buying the club.
But Klopp has suggested that the entire club may not be for sale, echoing FSG’s statement on Monday that investors are welcome instead.
Klopp also took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to his job regardless of who runs Liverpool.
Speaking after Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win over Derby, Klopp said: “Chelsea got sold. We are looking for investors. It is completely different.
“As far as I know they (FSG) are looking for investors and that makes sense. Whatever happens I am committed to the club.
“Nobody had a heart attack when they heard the news.”
Following the club’s financial collapse in 2010, FSG, who also owns the Major League Baseball team Boston Red Sox, purchased Liverpool from its previous owners George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks.
Since then, the Reds’ fortunes have changed on the field as they have won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup under head coach Jurgen Klopp.
FSG has also made significant investments in the renovation of Anfield and a brand-new, £50 million training facility in Kirkby.
