Fabio Carvalho fired a 98th-minute winner as Liverpool defeated Newcastle 2-1 in a thrilling contest at Anfield.

Alexander Isak gave the Magpies a deserved lead as he fired the ball powerfully past Alisson in an evenly contested first half on Merseyside.

And Eddie Howe’s men still looked good value for at least a point even after Roberto Roberto Firmino side footed home just past the hour mark, with that blow being followed by some impressive defending.

However, Newcastle had at times leaned on the dark art of time-wasting to halt the Reds’ momentum, and that came back to haunt them at the death.

it was the last of the added time that saw Carvalho smash the ball off the bar after a scramble from a corner as Anfield fans went crazy.
