Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel clashed on the touchline after the Tottenham boss celebrated in the face of the Chelsea boss before both men were sent off after a confrontation at full-time.
Conte returns to his former home, having led Chelsea for two seasons, but with his loyalties firmly with the north Londoners.
A trip to Stamford Bridge is an early test of Tottenham’s credentials after impressive summer signings which has seen them tipped to seize their opponents.
Chelsea took the lead in the first half through Kalidou Koulibaly and dominated in west London. Tottenham, despite being second best, have remained in the contest and were able to equalise through Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who slotted home from 20 yards.
The Italian manager turned towards the Chelsea bench during his heated celebrations. While the opposition brace was reeling in front of his teammate, Tuchel was straying and came face to face with him.
Conte’s celebration as Tuchel rushed to the fourth official to express his rage over what he felt was a foul committed in the lead-up to the equalizer may have been a case of wrong place, wrong time. Both coaching staff got involved in the ensuing altercation.
As a result, Tuchel and Conte received bookings, although the Tottenham equalizer was short-lived. After Raheem Sterling found Reece James, who has been a standout player, the Blues were able to regain the lead. Hugo Lloris was beaten by the full-back as the Chelsea boss ran down the sideline to celebrate.

Spurs managed to equalise in the 95th minute of play through Harry Kane who headed the ball from a corner kick past Edouard Mendy.
Tempers flared after the final whistle as Tuchel and Conte squared up to each other at full-time.
It lead to the pair being sent off after their handshake turned into a confrontation, which saw the majority of the staff and players have to separate the two men before Anthony Taylor brandished red cards for both men.
The result means both teams have won and drawn in their opening two games, leaving them with four points.
