Reports: Liverpool still very active in the transfer market as Jurgen Klopp submits ‘board request’ for star midfielder
Liverpool are set to uncharacteristically seal a shocking late deal as Jurgen Klopp request for midfield target.
Jurgen Klopp may be considering a surprise transfer for Real Madrid star Federico Valverde despite claiming that Liverpool’s business for this summer has already been concluded.
The Los Blancos midfielder is already well-known to the Reds fan base after the assist he gave Vinicius Junior in the Champions League Final between the two European giants in May.
Liverpool’s midfield has come under scrutiny, and many fans are upset the club isn’t doing more to improve its options in the transfer window.
With players like Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson at his disposal, there are mounting calls for Liverpool to try and bring in some young players to gradually reduce the average age of their midfield.
It has been widely rumoured for a while that England international and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is the Reds’ top transfer target. But it would take a magical figure to pry the Birmingham-born star out of this window at Signal Iduna Park.
Matheus Nunes of Sporting Lisbon was also mentioned as a potential substitute, but those rumors have since been refuted, making Valverde the most likely candidate should Klopp decide to reverse course and return to the market before the transfer window closes.
According to Spanish media Nacional, per the Liverpool Echo, reports that Klopp is ‘obsessed’ with the player and desperate to lure the Uruguayan international away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
The latest report states that Klopp is thought to have told the Reds chiefs to ‘pay whatever it takes to secure Valverde’s signature.
The 24-year-old has a contract with Madrid until the summer of 2027, thus Liverpool will almost probably have to break their strict internal transfer policies to have any chance of signing Valverde.
While it will probably take some time before the defending European Champions are forced to sell for a discount price, manager Carlo Ancelotti had been playing the Uruguayan out of position toward the end of the last campaign, and reports of a rift between the two have subsequently surfaced.
Liverpool will be expected to invest substantially more than ten times the amount Real Madrid paid for him (£4.5) if he decides to quit the team this summer in favor of a move to Anfield.
