Transfer news – Liverpool sent Nicolo Barella message after Jurgen Klopp’s Jude Bellingham midfield claims
In light of Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan being linked to the Reds, former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman has discussed the Reds’ midfield ambitions.
Despite demands from certain fans for Liverpool to acquire a new midfielder this summer, Steve McManaman doesn’t believe the club will add any new players to the roster.
Long-term target Jude Bellingham and Inter Milan’s Nico Barella are two players who have been mentioned in connection with a move to Anfield.

Jude Bellingham is Liverpool’s top target
Jurgen Klopp responded to the calls for a new midfielder by speaking out in defense of his squad’s present midfielders.
The German also made a suggestion that Bellingham might be on the market next summer, when Dortmund are rumored to be more open to selling.
McManaman, who spent nine years playing for Liverpool and made 364 appearances, doesn’t think the Reds can realistically recruit Italian midfielder Barella at this time.
Before discussing the chances Fabio Carvalho, Harvey Elliott, and Curtis Jones may have this season, the former Liverpool winger emphasized how Barella wouldn’t be filling the position of the departing Takumi Minamino.
When speaking to Horseracing.net, McManaman said:
“Takumi Minamino is gone but I don’t think that is a space that Barella will fill, and I don’t necessarily think Liverpool will bring anyone else in.
“Liverpool’s business is done unless one of Liverpool’s fringe midfielders goes in and says ‘I want to leave’.
“Of course, Fabio Carvalho, the young kid, has come in and you’ve got Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones and you’ve got the experienced players.
“So unless one of those experienced players says they want to leave, I can’t see Liverpool bringing another midfielder in right now, only because they seem to have so many: Naby Keïta, James Milner, Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho.
“And then you talk about Carvalho, Elliott, Jones. And then of course people are talking about next year with Jude Bellingham, so it just doesn’t make any sense at this moment in time, unless one of them leaves.”
