Virgil van Dijk injury update as Liverpool star explains what happened
Virgil van Dijk has admitted that he was taken off during Liverpool’s FA Cup triumph over Chelsea due to a pain in his knee.
At Wembley, Jurgen Klopp’s team defeated the Blues 6-5 in a penalty shootout. After 120 minutes of football, the game ended 0-0, same like the League Cup final in February.
Van Dijk, though, was replaced by Joel Matip at the end of the 90 minutes. The substitution alarmed fans, but the Dutchman explained his reasoning after the game.

He said: “Hopefully well, we’re going to check it out. I felt in the 1st half when I sprinted, I felt a twinge behind my knee, I played on.
“In the end, I can’t risk it for the team and I need to trust Joel. Hopefully it will be fine.”
Liverpool’s Alisson Becker saved Mason Mount in the penalty shootout, and Van Dijk feels his team has the finest goalkeeper in the world.
“Another trophy. It’s been too long that the club won this trophy. Both sides created opportunities. We have the best goalkeeper in the world.”
In other news, Jamie Carragher sends a warning message to Sadio Mane, as well as Diogo Jota.
