Thierry Henry sends blunt Liverpool message after victory over Villarreal
Thierry Henry has claimed that Liverpool were ‘lucky’ to get off the mark during their 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night.
The former Arsenal striker said the opening goal, which goes down as a Pervis Estupinan own goal was ‘lucky’ and before that Liverpool ‘weren’t showing a lot’, as he told CBS Sports.
As expected, Unai Emery’s side made life difficult for Jurgen Klopp’s side and they went into the halftime goalless.
But in the second, Liverpool picked up the pace and started moving closer to Villarreal’s penalty area, including a cross from Jordan Henderson that bounced off Estupinan and went over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

The Reds added a second through Sadio Mane and had several opportunities to extend their lead.
However, it seems as though Henry wasn’t too impressed by what the Reds were producing before their fortunate opener.
“If you look at the game, I think a lucky goal bailed them out, for me,” said Henry. “I think they would have knocked on the door, if not all night.
“It’s a lucky goal, the own goal of Villarreal is a lucky goal and I think, before that, they weren’t showing a lot.
“But, along the way, I would say, when you are going for the quadruple, then you need to have that luck. And, after that, there is nothing about luck.”
No matter how they come, Jürgen Klopp’s side is leading the way and should now be booking their last ticket to Paris as they continue to dream of a quadruple.
