Advantage Liverpool
Liverpool took a big step towards reaching the finals of the Champions League with a 2-0 home win over Villarreal in the first leg of their semi-final tie.
Una Emery’s side held the Red to a goalless first half as playing defensively with Liverpool also failing to convert their chances created in the first 45 minutes.
However, in the 53rd minutes Liverpool took the lead through Jordan Henderson’s delivery was inadvertently deflected into his own net by Villarreal defender Pervis Estupinan.
Just two minutes later it was 2-0 as Sadio Mane slotted the ball home having been found by Mohamed Salah.
