Jurgen Klopp reacts to Mo Salah’s goal drought after Liverpool’s victory over Benfica
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp insists Mo Salah is going through “a tough period” of goal drought due to a lot of pressure following a subdued display in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
First-half goals from Ibrahima Konate and Sadio Mane, before Darwin Nunez, pulled one back for the hosts shortly after halftime.
But a late goal from Luis Diaz ensured the Reds secured a 3-1 win over Benfica in Quater final first leg of the UEFA Champions League.
Mo Salah endured another frustrating game as he missed an excellent chance in the first half before being withdrawn in the final half of the encounter.

The 29-year-old has managed to score only two goals from open play since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations. He went goalless again in the Benfica game, although he had a couple of chances in the first half.
“It’s clear Mo wants to score again,” Jurgen Klopp told a press conference when he was asked about another goalless night for Mohamed Salah.
“Each player in that situation wants to score, and obviously with all the stories around, it’s clear Mo wants to score as well, especially in this moment but it’s all fine.
It’s a tough period, both boys came back from Africa, it’s really not easy, massive pressure on their shoulders, both have to solve it for their countries. Their managers were part of that as well, to put it on them. Klopp added.
“I think now he needs time to settle, that’s all. An important game for Mo and Sadio tonight, one could score the other one unfortunately not, but everything will be fine.”
Fortunately for Klopp Liverpool’s front line options are as strong as ever under him, but if they want to succeed on every front, they’ll surely need Salah firing on all cylinders as soon as possible.
