Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho arrived at Anfield from Fulham last summer, but is already being linked with a move away after struggling to break into the first team under Jurgen Klopp

After starring for Fulham in the Championship in 2020/21, the Portuguese winger signed for Jurgen Klopp for a fee of £5million last summer; with the German boss tipping him play a major role for the Reds. But he’s found his opportunities limited, making just 13 league appearances this season and starting just one game since Christmas.

The 20-year-old was an unused substitute as Liverpool finished their campaign with a madcap 4-4 draw at Southampton on Sunday, and prior to that game Klopp had conceded the player could soon be offloaded. However, he suggested that the move would be temporary with Carvalho still part of his long-term plans.

Jurgen Klopp makes transfer admission after bold Liverpool prediction falls flat
“I think there is a possibility that maybe Fabio will go on loan or whatever,” he said. “We will see. The thing is, this was not Fabio’s best year of his career, clearly, in a very young career, but it might have been his most important.”

The star himself was less philosophical on social media on Monday night, as he posted a series of pictures from a modelling shoot with the chain emoji as the caption. It prompted former Fulham teammate Ryan de Havilland to write “Next top model,” with Carvalho pointedly replying: “All I do now.”

Manchester United player Anthony Elanga later wrote: “Fresh home…” And in the biggest hint yet that a move is imminent, the Benfica youth graduate responded with: “Soon”

The Liverpool Echo has reported that an unnamed club have already had a bid turned down to Carvalho, who has scored twice in the league for The Reds, including a dramatic 98th minute winner against Newcastle in August, is also reportedly being chased by a host of other sides.

And despite admitting he could soon be leaving, Klopp also praised the attitude and work ethic of Carvalho. And he again tipped him for big things whether it be in a Liverpool shirt or elsewhere.

“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, it is the truth,” he told reporters. “This talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations and it didn’t work out – it was okay in the beginning but it didn’t work out in the end. But his work ethic will give him a fantastic career because he trained with getting nothing.”
