Virgil van Dijk has spoken on the role of his former teammate, Sadio Mane, who many outside of Liverpool have pointed to as the cause of our dismal season’s start.

Speaking with Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports, the 31-year-old said:

“Sadio was a massive player for us but he wanted to leave, it’s not like we let him go… I don’t think that [Mane’s departure] is the exact reason why we are not performing”.

It’s intriguing to hear the Holland captain say that the team accepts no responsibility for our former No. 10’s departure because the club accepted the player’s decision.

Any team would undoubtedly miss his talent, but as our center-half noted, we have Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez who have integrated into Jurgen Klopp’s team and are poised to have a significant influence.
