Liverpool’s final friendly game before the World Cup’s finale saw them defeat AC Milan 4-1 in the Dubai Super Cup.
Although they lost 3-1 to Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s team looked lot more like themselves when they defeated the Rossoneri.
The German picked a strong starting XI again showing his intent to get as many of his first team as ready as possible for next week’s Carabao Cup clash with rivals Manchester City.
Joel Matip brilliantly nudged the ball to Mohamed Salah in the fifth minute, who calmly finished it off to give the Reds the lead.
Before the half-hour mark, Alexis Saelemaekers equalised by cutting inside from the right and curling a shot into the bottom corner beyond Caoimhin Kelleher.
However,Thiago Alcantara’s unstoppable shot into the far corner from 20 yards allowed Liverpool to regain the lead after just 12 minutes.
The Merseysiders kept up the pressure after the break despite several personnel changes, and substitute Darwin Nunez scored twice to make it 4-1 with goals assisted by the outstanding Bobby Clark and Ben Doak, who also struck the post.
The post-match penalty shootout took place with Liverpool going down 4-3 on spot kicks with Kostas Tsimikas and Naby Keita unable to convert their efforts
The Reds will now look forward to the return of domestic football with the little matter of a trip to the Etihad on Thursday.
