Liverpool ended a three-game winless run and inflicted Sean Dyche’s first defeat as Everton manager as they ran out 2-0 winners in the Merseyside derby.

Jurgen Klopp’s side shook off their poor recent form to dominate their local rivals, who had only last week impressed in beating Premier League leaders Arsenal.

They did need some luck to do it, with James Tarkowski striking the post just seconds before Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in finishing off a lightning first-half counterattack.

However, the Reds were good value for a win that was sealed by a second-half Cody Gakpo goal — his first for the club since arriving from PSV Eindhoven in January.l
