Mikel Arteta explains why he wanted to fight Jurgen Klopp in Arsenal 4-0 loss to Liverpool.
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has revealed what transpired between him and Jurgen Klopp, in the Premier League game on Saturday at Anfield.
Liverpool ended Arsenal’s 8 games unbeaten run and this was one of the matches many had hoped to see the Gunners make a statement.
But, Arsenal suffered a 4-0 defeat against the reds, at some point in the game, a fight ensued, between the benches of both teams.
Arteta was angry, following a tackle from Sadio mane on defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, which lead to an exchange of words between both benches. Liverpool bench didn’t see any wrong in the challenge made by their striker why the visitors thought otherwise.
The managers of both sides were shown a yellow card by referee Michael Oliver.
Arteta and Klopp nearly engaged in a physical fight as they screamed and shouted at each other just after the half-hour mark during the encounter at Anfield.
Asked about the fight, Arteta said at his post-match press conference afterward, “He (Klopp) was trying to defend his side, I was trying to defend mine, and that’s it.
“I think the atmosphere was incredible right from the beginning.
“It was just an action (by Mane), and I tried to defend my players and that’s what I did.”
when asked if he spoke with Klopp “Yes, I did [speak to Jurgen Klopp after the match] and I congratulated him. These moments are left on the pitch.”
