Liverpool Transfer: Liverpool planning a January swoop for 25 year old RB Leipzig star midfielder as potential Henderson replacement

Liverpool are planning a January swoop for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer according to a report on Sky Germany (h/t Daily Mail).

This season, Jurgen Klopp’s team has had difficulty, with the midfield unit being particularly problematic. The midfielders have either been injured frequently or have been out of form.

The Reds are reportedly preparing a “major investment” for next summer, but they are unwilling to hold out for a midfielder until then. Manchester United and Bayern Munich are both interested in Laimer.

A young and seasoned midfielder would be beneficial to the Reds. James Milner, Thiago Alcantara, and Jordan Henderson are all in their 30s, thus more players are need to compete for a spot in the team.

Although both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are excellent possibilities, they are both very prone to injury and cannot be relied upon. Laimer’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, thus he might be cheap to acquire.

Since 2017, Laimer has made 167 appearances for the German team, contributing 18 assists and 11 goals. He is a seasoned midfielder who also supports the Reds, which might offer Liverpool an edge over rival teams.

If the Reds do make a play for the midfielder, it remains to be seen. There is no question that more players are needed, particularly in the middle area. It remains to be seen if Laimer is one of them.
