Leeds United rules out Liverpool transfer swap on deadline day

Liverpool star forward Takumi Minamino will not be joining Premier League club, Leeds United on the last day of the January transfer window.

Leeds had reportedly lined up a move for Minamino in the event of Crysencio Summerville departing Elland Road on loan.

However, neither deal is due to happen today, leaving Leeds overseeing a quiet transfer Deadline Day.

As per Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Summerville’s move out of Leeds has collapsed, which, in turn, means that there will be no late bid to sign Minamino from Liverpool.

The 27-year-old has scored twice in eight Premier League substitute appearances this season, as well as four times in the EFL Cup.

Summerville, meanwhile, will be looking to take advantage of his five appearances for Leeds in the Premier League this season, unless another loan opportunity arises and he receives the blessing of Marcelo Bielsa.

It’s difficult to know whether or not to be happy about this.

Bielsa wanted to retain Summerville and it looks like he will be getting his wish when it comes to that.

However, Summerville leaving on loan might well have given Leeds the chance to sign Minamino from Liverpool, which would’ve been an exciting deal.

The forward has good versatility and it can certainly be argued that he is more suited to the here-and-now of the Premier League than Summerville.

As things stand, it looks like Leeds will be quiet today, which is disappointing for an expectant fan base.
