Latest update on Sadio Mane after suffering a head injury in AFCON

Liverpool star Sadio Mane says he is doing well despite being taken to hospital after suffering a concussion during Senegal’s win over Cape Verde in the Africa Cup of Nations.

There was concern for Mane after he clashed with Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, with the latter being sent off for his part in the incident.

Mane required treatment but was allowed to continue and shortly afterwards he scored Senegal’s first goal in the round of 16 match in Bafoussam.

However, the 29-year-old, who seemed knocked out during the clash of heads, fell to the ground after celebrating his goal and was later substituted.

Bamba Dieng added Senegal’s second in injury-time in a match which saw Cape Verde reduced to nine men after Patrick Andrade had been shown a straight red card in the first half.

Speaking after the 2-0 win, Senegal manager Aliou Cissé confirmed that Mane had been taken to hospital, telling reporters: “He felt weak, his head was spinning and he had to go there.”

Mane then posted a photo from his hospital bed with Vozinha and confirmed that he was fine, although his availability for the remainder of the tournament is now in doubt.

Senegal, who have never won the Africa Cup of Nations, will now face either Mali or Equatorial Guinea in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
