Liverpool goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher has disclosed what coach Jurgen Klopp told his team at halftime that propelled them to victory in their dramatic League victory over Leicester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were 3-1 down at halftime with 2 goals from Jamie Vardy.
Ox-lade Chamberlain scored for the host to make it 2-1 giving Liverpool a lifeline, but James Maddison restored the foxes two-goal advantage just before the break.
The Reds did not disappoint when a second goal came in the 45th minute, with substitute Diogo Jota putting in the effort needed to get Liverpool to their feet and roaring for the comeback.
Although it looked like things were going to end in Leicester City’s favor as the game came was coming to a close, but an injury-time goal, courtesy of Taki Minamino gave the hopeful home crowd some joy as Liverpool recorded a magnificent late draw to set up the penalty shoot-out.
Kelleher’s heroic performance from the penalty shoot-out as he saved Ryan Bertrand and Luke Thomas penalty kicks and handed Liverpool a 5-4 victory over Brendan Rodger’s men.
Speaking after the match Kelleher said “We didn’t get off to a great start and at half-time, we’re obviously 3-1 down, but we actually felt quite confident because the goals we gave away were kind of mostly our fault really, giving the ball away,” as quoted by Sunday World.
“The manager just said at half-time, ‘If you get the next goal this crowd will get up and anything can happen.’
“So we always believe right to the end and that showed.”
Liverpool for the first time since 2016/17 reached the semi-finals of the League Cup and have been drawn against Arsenal in their quest to win the competition.
