‘It is going to happen’ – Alan Shearer makes blunt Darwin Nunez Liverpool prediction

Liverpool superstar Darwin Nunez returned to the fold for Saturday’s Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool

Nunez was reinstated for the game on Saturday at Goodison Park after serving a three-match suspension for receiving a red card against Crystal Palace on his home debut.

In the match on August 15, the former Benfica player lost his composure and headbutted Joachim Andersen, which resulted in his immediate ejection.

The attacker, though, was unable to make the impact he desired as Liverpool earned a scoreless draw. He did, though, force an outstanding stop from Jordan Pickford in the last seconds of the first half.

Shearer, a former Newcastle United player, said on Match of the Day on Saturday that Liverpool’s high-profile summer acquisition would have a target on his back as a result of his red card against Palace.

“[Darwin Nunez will be targeted] It is not only going to happen (against Everton),” the Premier League great said.

“It is going to happen in the future as well because a little crack has appeared. If you didn’t already know with Nunez then you saw the reaction with Joachim Anderson.

“So it is going to happen, he is going to get wound up, people have seen now that he has got that little chink in his armour – that he can be pushed to breaking point.

“Some great players, this is what makes them tick. They have got that little bit of devil in them. They enjoy it and get a kick out of that.”
