How Klopp’s wife convinced him not to join Man United before Liverpool deal.

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has revealed how his wife, Ulla Klopp played a key role in his decision to remain at Anfield for two more years.

The news brought joy to many Reds fans who were hoping to hear about it.

The answers given by the German on his future in recent months appeared to indicate he was ready to call time on his career at the club in 2024 when his contract was due to expire.

However, the 54-year-old has now taken the decision to prolong his Reds tenure by a further two years to 2026.

Stating reasons why he choose to remain at Liverpool past his expected departure date, Klopp explained his wife, Ulla, played an influential role.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com he said: “If, when I said around the last contract extension, that in 2024 that’s it then, it was actually a private agreement and the most important contract in my life I signed is the one with Ulla. That’s where it started again.

“We sat in the kitchen at the table and Ulla said, ‘I can’t see us leaving in 2024.’ And I was like, ‘What?!’ ‘No, really, [with] all the people about.’ You won’t know Lisa, but she is very important for us, it’s about Danielle, it’s about so many people.

” That’s the first moment and then, of course, it’s about the club and all the people I don’t know personally but I know as well, so that’s how it all started.”

And this isn’t the first time Liverpool have thanked Klopp’s partner. The Reds boss, who was seen as a replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013, is said to have turned down the opportunity after being advised by Ulla about the vacant position.

According to Reds legend Phil Thompson, who previously told Norwegian channel TV 2 : “I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other. He looked at me and asked ‘why?’.

“Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn’t right. When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he’s created for Liverpool.”
