Football greats and Madrid fans react after Barcelona youngster sensational display against Sevilla
Barcelona secured an all-important victory against Sevilla at the weekend, thanks to a Pedri masterclass.
The 19-year-old ran the show for the Catalans, dictating attacks, getting into dangerous positions and helping at the back.
Pedri scored the decisive goal, first sending two Sevilla players to the shops and then hitting the far corner with a beautiful low effort from the edge of the box.
The victory saw the Catalans move to second on the La Liga table above sevilla with a game in hand.
The football world is applauding the Barca midfield sensation for his incredible performance. Many have taken to social media to praise the Spanish youngster.
“What a goal from Pedri. Unbelievably talented young footballer,” England icon Gary Lineker tweeted.
“Siiiiiiii! Pedri golazo!” Carles Puyol commented.
Sevilla sporting director Monchi said: “I don’t know if Pedri’s goal will go down in history. What I do know, is that it was scored by a player that will possibly go down in history.”
Football reporter John Muller went viral with this tweet: “Pedri isn’t one of the best young players in the world. He’s one of the best players in the world, full stop.”
“Pedri, future Ballon d’Or,” journalist Toni Juanmarti wrote on Twitter.
Famous Spanish Youtuber Jordi Wild added: “This tweet is simply to remind you that Pedri is only 19 years old.”.
Surprisingly Madrid fans could not deny how good Pedri is. Here are some of their takes.
Muddassir Hussain: “The most common response from a Real Madrid fan when another Madridista praises Pedri is ‘he wouldn’t have got a chance at Madrid.’
“But while that’s correct, isn’t that the entire problem? The club’s over-reliance and unwillingness to move on from KCM [Kroos, Casemiro, Modric] is clearly holding us back.”
Brasiniñismo: “Pedri is amazing. If only we had a manager that gave our youngsters some minutes, maybe we’d have our own Pedri smh.”
Kiyan Sobhani: “Pedri caps his performance. His vision and passing all game have been ridiculous. Now that.”
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez was full of praise for Pedri but stressed that the Spanish international should be scoring more goals than he has so far.
“Pedri is a very important player who makes the difference. He played a perfect match, like the rest of the team. A player like Pedri should finish the season with a lot more goals. We are working on that,” he said.
“Pedri is a superb player. He makes the difference. We encourage him to shoot and he’s able to score these goals. It doesn’t surprise me, we see it every day in training.”
