Bad news as Liverpool star suffers ‘long-term’ injury in latest setback for Klopp

In the latest setback for Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay has picked up a long-term injury that could keep him out until the end of the season.

In the summer, the former Aberdeen player moved to Anfield to serve as Trent Alexander-Arnold backup. Arnold’s time has been limited, though, as he has mostly played for the Under-23s this season.

Ramsay has only played in two senior matches so far this season; he played the entire 90 minutes as the Reds defeated Derby County in the Carabao Cup, and he came off the bench as they defeated Napoli 2-0 in the Champions League.

Both performances came in November and the 19-year-old has only been used as a substitute once in the Premier League so far this season. He has yet to establish himself as a regular.

Liverpool have a number of injured absentees which have hindered the progress of the Reds this season.

Thiago Alcantara, the most recent, suffered a hip injury in training, dealing Klopp a serious blow. According to The Telegraph, the Spaniard had a hip injury during practise and would be sidelined for four weeks.

He joins Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Arthur Melo on the sidelines.

However, Klopp received a huge boost after Diogo Jota returned to training last week.

The Portuguese international’s Merseyside derby may be too soon for him, but he may be eligible to play against Newcastle and in the Reds’ Champions League round of 16 matches against Real Madrid.

Liverpool hosts Everton at Anfield on Monday evening, with Klopp, set to reignite his feud with Sean Dyche.

The new Toffees boss will be hoping to make it two wins from two after beating Arsenal 1-0 in his first game in charge.

But, Klopp will know three points are a must if he is to stand any chance of finishing in the European places at all this season.
